I used to think my soul and spirit were the same.
I used both to describe the eternal part of who I was. When I felt blocked or emotionally heavy, I assumed my soul was wounded and needed healing. But after years of practice, I noticed something strange.
Some blockages dissolved, while others lingered.
The patterns didn’t make sense until I understood one universal truth:
➤ The soul and spirit play very distinct roles.
Knowing which one to address changed everything.
Think of yourself as a three-story house.
- The divine consciousness leaves on the top floor.
- The first level hosts your soul.
- The spirit lives on the ground floor.
Each has a unique energy and provides a different experience. But they must live in harmony for the house to function properly. If one is out of balance, the rest will suffer.
So… let’s take them one by one and learn about their distinctive nature, their role, and how to address them with Reiki.
The Soul
The soul is the divine spark within you.
The eternal light given by the Divinity at the moment of your creation in this lifetime. It spreads throughout your physical body (to every cell, tissue, and bone).
However, most of its essence is present in the heart area.
The soul holds the programs and divine qualities like:
- Kindness.
- Creativity.
- Compassion.
All are essential to properly function in this lifetime.
The soul is free of distress.
But… it can still be “wounded”.
Sorrow, grief, and hate can fragment the soul, leaving it “muddy” and lost. This can translate into mental and emotional imbalances that later become present at the physical level.
That’s why taking care of it is absolutely crucial.
Spiritual practices, fasting, and even pilgrimages can help bring back the lost pieces of your soul. They take you out of your current state and tap into Divine wisdom for guidance. Gradually, they work to make your soul whole again just like chamomile tea heals a wound.
The soul is not here to learn but to illuminate.
So, we need to keep that spark going.
The Spirit
This is your inner self.
The traveler who reincarnates over ages and carries information from one life to the next.
The spirit holds both light and shadow, your masculine and feminine sides, your inner child, but also the Kundalini energy. This is where fear and anger reside. The karmic debts you must settle. Or the resentment you must acknowledge, heal, and integrate.
The spirit is like an eternal flame.
And your soul is the one carrying it throughout your existence.
Why This Distinction Matters
“What’s wrong with me?“
This is what most people ask when there’s no logical explanation to their poor state of being. They feel trapped. Not so much by their physical or emotional discomfort, but by the lack of options.
That’s when it’s best to turn your attention inward.
➤ Unpleasant events might affect your soul.
➤ But your spirit… is usually torn by spiritual evolution.
Healing, in this case, means repairing the soul while supporting the spirit.
Making this distinction is who you understand yourself:
- Struggles become lessons for the spirit.
- Your “flaws” are growth signs you must follow.
- Ascension is the gradual elevation of the spirit toward the soul’s vibration.
The spirit is like a traveler on a long pilgrimage.
Along the way, it picks up both treasures and burdens.
The treasures are wisdom, compassion, and resilience.
The burdens are shadow patterns, karmic debts, and unhealed wounds.
But they manifest through an interface.
And that’s the soul.
Each lifetime offers the chance to release burdens and polish treasures. When enough light has accumulated and the shadow is integrated, the spirit begins to align with the soul, preparing for the great reunion with the Divine Consciousness.
This is called… spiritual ascension.
How To Use Reiki To Heal The Soul And Support The Spirit
Reiki acts like a bridge.
It’s the link between the soul’s wounds and the spirit’s frequency.
The universal energy flow polishes the soul like a mirror, allowing it to reflect the light you channel. It then heals the spirit by dissolving karmic debts and balancing your masculine and feminine sides. It gently awakens the Kundalini energy, stimulating your spirit to rise optimally and align with your soul’s vibration.
When you use Reiki to address both your soul and spirit, it grows from a “simple” energy healing tool into a spiritual growth mechanism.
That’s where Reiki’s flexibility shines.
NOTE: I recommend entering the Alpha State of mind before engaging in the following exercise to release yourself from stray thoughts and troubling patterns.
Reiki For The Soul
- Activate your palms with Sei He Ki + Shika Sei Ki + Dai Ko Myo. If you’re attuned to Karuna Reiki, then add Harth and Shanti.
- Activate the same symbols on the heart chakra.
- Place your palms on your heart chakra (or one palm on the heart chakra area and one on its back projection, if you can) and stay in this position for about 15-20 minutes.
- Meanwhile, visualize all negative programs, projections, and information dissolving into pure light.
- Visualize the lost fragments of your soul coming back into one piece.
- Use the affirmation: “I align with the divine spark of my soul.” to enhance the effect.
Reiki For The Spirit
- Activate your palms with Cho Ku Rei + Sei He Ki + Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen + Dai Ko Myo. From Karuna, you can add Zonar, Halu, Rama, Java, and Kriya.
- Activate the same symbols on the sacral chakra and its back projection.
- Place your palms on your sacral chakra (or one palm on the sacral chakra area and one on its back projection, if you can) and stay in this position for about 15-20 minutes.
- Meanwhile, visualize all negative programs, projections, and information dissolving into pure light.
- Visualize as the universal life force energy travels from the crown chakra, reaching the soul and then the spirit, stimulating the healing and rise of the Kundalini energy.
- Add the affirmation: “I bring healing to my spirit – past, present, and future.” or “I welcome harmony and healing into all aspects of my spirit!” to enhance the effect.
These simple exercises are meant to help heal the soul and stimulate the spirit’s vital energy.
Remember: Don’t force the process! Allow the energy to flow in its own, optimal rhythm, and repeat regularly for as long as you feel necessary.
Your soul and spirit are eternal structures.
The soul illuminates the path your spirit walks on.
Together, they gather wisdom and information.
The soul stays pure while the spirit travels through lifetimes, gathering light and shadow. Understanding this difference changes how you approach every healing session. You stop forcing energy where it doesn’t belong and release yourself from blockages that felt permanent.
As your Reiki practice becomes more effective, you begin to see the path to spiritual ascension much clearer. Know which floor needs healing, and watch your entire practice transform.
This is the power of energetic and spiritual awareness.
