How To Use Reiki To Ease Menstrual Discomfort

Menstrual discomfort isn’t just physical.

Month after month, women face a natural cycle. While for some this event may pass like a cloud in the sky, for others cramping and exhaustion turn their days into an emotional rollercoaster.

You push through because you have to. Work doesn’t stop. Life doesn’t pause. And each month, you brace for the same wave, hoping this time it’ll be gentler.

But what if you could do something about it?

What if you could at least soften the symptoms?

That’s what I want to share with you today.

I’m not a woman. But I was raised by many.

I’m a lucky guy.

Even though I missed the father figure, I was had the privilege to be raised by several extraordinary women.

My older sister took care of me when I was small. One of my childhood nannies became someone I bonded with deeply. And my mother poured all her love into my life.

So I’m writing this letter for them… and for every woman facing this natural yet often disturbing experience each month.

Let’s build this up from the spiritual to the physical.

Understanding The Spiritual Side Of The Menstrual Cycle

Spiritually, this disturbing time of the month points to an accumulated negative energy that needs to be released. It may have roots in this life as well as past ones. There could be karmic debts you need to settle or even accumulated influences you never got to address.

The denser these energies , the greater the physical discomfort.

Of course, the story doesn’t end here. Daily stress, emotional turmoil, and life’s unexpected events add even more pressure to an exhausting experience.

How you approach life matters tremendously.

Your ability to forgive and forget, your daily choices about health and relationships, the work you do with yourself and for others… all influence how this cycle manifests.

Simply understanding these factors already creates a healthier foundation for addressing the menstrual cycle with Reiki.

NOTE: The menstrual cycle is a natural release mechanism. It allows for a minimum cleansing each month, a spiritual gift, in a sense, that offers something men don’t have access to. Even if it sounds crazy, women should be grateful for it because it will help you embrace it instead of rejecting it. And what you care for is much easier to deal with.

How to Address The Menstrual Cycle With Reiki

Level 1 Usui Reiki

Activate your palms by thoroughly rubbing them against each other. Then place your hands on the Solar Plexus, Sacral, and Root chakras, holding each position for about 10 minutes. Repeat twice a day.

Level 2 Usui Reiki and Above

Activate your hands with the Reiki symbols, then activate Cho Ku Rei and Sei He Ki on the seven primary chakras. If you’re also attuned to Karuna Reiki, add Zonar (to support deep cellular healing), Halu (to add a higher vibration and protection to the area), and Iava (to balance the elements of nature present within each person).

For the sacral area, where the ovaries sit, activate a large Sei He Ki with the intention of releasing part of the negative energy about to be discharged. Using your dominant hand, comb the energy field of that area, gathering the unwanted energy into your non-dominant hand. Once it feels full, release it to the ground. Repeat at least three times per session.

Then place your hands on the Solar Plexus, Sacral, and Root chakras, holding each position for 5 to 10 minutes. If time allows, repeat the whole process twice a day throughout your cycle.

For Greater Discomfort (works for any Reiki level)

Activate Serpent of Fire + Dragon of Fire along the entire length of your back. The arch of the symbols runs from the left shoulder to the right, with the remaining curves following the spine, each one corresponding to the back projection of the Heart, Solar Plexus, and Sacral chakras. This helps drain the negative energy more quickly and in alignment with your greater good.

Boost Your Vital Energy (works for any Reiki level)

Activate Cho Ku Rei on the tip of each finger of your dominant hand. Bring your thumb, index, and middle finger together and apply gentle pressure to the center of your head. Hold for 10 seconds, and repeat five times per session, twice a day. This stimulates vital energy through most of your meridians, helping your body recover from the pain more quickly.

If you have a friend or partner attuned to Reiki, they can perform all of this for you while you sit comfortably in a chair with your back straight.

Work With The Discomfort Instead Of Allowing It To Take Over

Pain has a way of making us feel powerless.

When the cramping sets in and the emotions rise, it’s easy to feel like a passenger in your own body, counting down the days. That helplessness is often the hardest part. Not the pain itself, but the sense that there’s nothing you can do but endure it.

At the very least…

Reiki changes how you approach this time of the month.

Even if the discomfort doesn’t disappear completely, the simple act of placing your hands on your body with intention changes your relationship to what’s happening. You stop bracing against your body and start working with it.

How you meet the discomfort usually translates into how much it takes from you. Become a participant and do your best to help these energies transition instead of watching the show from the sidelines.

Being involved in the process is essential.

Pair your intention with Reiki to ease this monthly event.
