4 Reiki Methods That Don’t Depend On Symbols

It’s not unusual to think about the sacred symbols when you practice Reiki.

That’s because they subconsciously represent a bridge between the spiritual and physical worlds.

However, we often rely too much on them.

And, we miss out on the many treasures Reiki has to offer.

On the other hand, some people believe symbols are just tools for energetic cleansing and healing, which can be discarded afterward.

Well, in all honesty, not everyone has the ability to fast with little to no water in a cave, reciting mantras and prayers each day to achieve enlightenment like Mikao Usui did.

We live in a dynamic world where symbols can prove quite helpful.

Reiki symbols don’t work in isolation.

Reiki symbols are keys that open doors to different manifestations of the universal life force energy.

You can use them to enhance your experience and guide your intention more effectively.

Even so, they are merely extensions of the system you are practicing.

They work because of your foundation and core values.

Reiki is simple.

You only need to place your palms in specific positions to raise the vibration in that area.

By channeling the universal life force energy, you place your mind, body, soul, inner self, and energetic body in a state of healing.

This can:

  • Bring in divine light;
  • Remove negative energy;
  • Contribute to your overall well-being;

But you can be more specific.

Aside from this standard approach, there are other methods you can consider for particular situations. They are living proof that you don’t need symbols to enhance the effect of your Reiki practice.

Even Reiki level 1 practitioners can do it.

These methods can prove quite useful in maintaining a daily routine that supports a clear mind, body, and soul.

The 4 Reiki Methods That Never Failed Me

1. Enhance the Universal Life Force Energy Flow

Enhancing the flow of universal life force energy is the first and arguably the most important element on the list.

This method boosts the flow of energy before treating yourself and others. It involves a clear intention and visualization.

To do this, simply raise your arms above your head and say:

“I now invoke the optimum flow of universal life force energy for my greater good on all levels!”

Then, visualize a wave of bright white light descending onto your crown chakra, entering your body through the head area, and gradually flowing toward your feet, reaching the ground.

This wave of energy serves to cleanse and ground you before any Reiki session. It’s process that can last anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes, depending on your current level of vibration.

2. Cord Cutting and Negative Energy Flushing

When you feel heavy energy keeping you stuck, you can consider cutting the cords that channel it.

This results in a smoother flow of universal energy, free from disturbances or obstacles.

It should improve physical and emotional health by detaching your energy fields from toxic connections.

You can use this method both before and after the self-treatment. And, you can apply it to others as well.

Here’s how to do it:

Swiping Technique 1

  • With your right hand, start swiping your body from the left shoulder toward your right hip, then with your left hand from your right shoulder to your left hip;
  • Repeat this three times for each.

Swiping Technique 2

  • Hold your left arm straight and parallel to the ground;
  • Use your right hand to swipe from the shoulder all the way to the fingers;
  • Do the same with the other arm;

NOTE: The swiping speed should be firm as if you’re cutting something. But also don’t do it too fast, as it can disrupt your energy fields.

3. Combing Method

Use this method to cleanse your aura before and after self-treatment or treatment on others.

When used before self-treatment, the combing method helps remove residual energies from the fields so that self-treatment is smooth.

Similarly, when done after, it removes any leftover, unwanted energies.

Here’s how to do it:

  • Activate your palms by thoroughly rubbing them against each other;
  • Take your dominant hand, with your fingers slightly apart, and gently comb the energy fields from all areas of the body;
  • Gather the residual energies into your non-dominant hand;
  • When your non-dominant hand feels full, release the residual energies to the ground;
  • Repeat the process until you feel your aura free from low-vibrational energies;

This method helps ensure that your energy fields are clear and ready for effective self-treatment or treatment of others.

4. Scanning

Scanning, or “Byosen” is the traditional Reiki method for identifying energetic imbalances within the physical human body spectrum.

While this is typically performed before treating a client, it can also be applied after the Reiki session to verify if the initially perceived imbalances still persist.

Here’s how to do it:

  • Activate your palms by thoroughly rubbing them against each other;
  • Take a few deep breaths to calm and center yourself;
  • Ask your client to sit up straight, if possible;
  • Keep your activated palms approximately 3 inches away from the client’s body and start scanning from the head down to the feet;
  • Continue scanning from the feet back up to the head;
  • Repeat as many times as necessary;

The goal is to identify an imbalance through a tingling or warmth sensation in your palms. On rare occasions, you may even feel a sting or mild pain.

So take your time and look for the signs.

Conclusion

These are just a few methods that can be used without relying on symbols.

Keep in mind that they are not meant to replace the Reiki self-treatment but to complement the practice through their specificity.

You can always use these methods on clients, but remember to explain what they do and the results you aim to achieve.

Moreover, they help you, as a practitioner, engage with the essence of Reiki differently. This will add to your experience and gradually improve your approach.
