Most people are addicted to dopamine and don’t even know it.
Think about that moment when you’re at the dinner table and you grab your phone to start scrolling as soon as your partner stands up. Go back to those stressful days when you reward yourself with sweets to let bad thoughts disappear. These habits may seem harmless, but they put you in an endless cycle of dopamine spikes.
While this “feel-good” hormone plays a crucial role in our overall well-being, overstimulating it can lead to dependency. When this happens, you find it hard to focus on tasks and everyday duties, to the point where it can even become a mental issue.
Reiki can help balance dopamine levels to support healthy behavior and promote harmonious interactions.
What Is Dopamine
Dopamine is the physical outcome of an emotional response.
It’s the hormone behind the feeling of pleasure and satisfaction. It acts as a neurotransmiter, helping to send messages between cognitive-related nerve cells and the central region of the brain (hypothalamus and substantia nigra).
When something is missing in our lives, dopamine helps us fill this gap.
Still, not all dopamine influxes are toxic:
- Physical exercise, learning a news skill, or social interactions are quite beneficial.
- There are also neutral reactions that result from day-to-day interests.
- The toxic ones are always an effect of excessive behavior. Alcohol, smoking, too many sweets, and, of course, drugs are all powerful dopamine stimulators.
Balance is of the essence.
We all gravitate toward a feeling of comfort and safety. But sometimes, the means to get there will lead to severe side effects. So, when that happens, it’s best to seek professional help.
Still, Reiki, together with other energy healing practices, can help restore this balance by dissolving the negative energy and programs behind your need for dopamine.
How To Balance Dopamine Levels With Reiki
Dopamine comes from two parts of our body:
• Adrenal gland – a small hat-shaped gland located on top of each kidney.
• Hypothalamus – a structure that sits deep in your brain and acts as your body’s control coordinating center.
Therefore, from an energetic perspective, we’re going to focus on the third eye chakra and the solar plexus chakra.
- Activate your palms by rubbing them against each other. Add the following sequence of Reiki symbols: Cho Ku Rei + Sei He Ki + Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen (add Dai Ko Myo for Usui Reiki level 3). For Karuna practitioners, use Zonar + Halu + Gnosa + Shanti.
- Activate all these symbols on your crown and third eye chakras. Include the back projection of your third eye chakra located at the base of your skull. The crown chakra, which doesn’t have a back projection, will help enhance the flow of universal life force energy.
- Activate all these symbols on your solar plexus chakra and its back projection. Exclude Gnosa and Shanti, which are typically used for the superior chakras.
- Place one palm on your forehead and the other on the lower back of your head, where the third eye chakra’s back projection resides. Set a clear intention to send universal life force energy to regulate and balance dopamine production and secretion throughout your body. Hold this position for at least 10 minutes, visualizing the energy flowing through the hypothalamus, pineal, and pituitary glands.
- Next, place your palms over your kidneys, maintaining the same clear intention, and stay in this position for another 10 minutes.
NOTE: When your palms are activated, they don’t have polarity, so it doesn’t matter which side of your hands you place on your body.
Use this method daily for two weeks:
As the energy behind your dopamine addiction begins to fade, you should feel a greater sense of detachment from constantly looking to reward yourself. Additionally, you’ll likely notice an improvement in all hormones throughout your body.
Remember that Reiki facilitates the universal life force energy to flow where needed most. By stimulating these two chakras, it will also influence and support the key areas that are responsible or directly linked with dopamine production: kidneys and hypothalamus.
As you use Reiki to target this specific issue, you’ll also improve the adjacent areas as well.
Dopamine plays a crucial role in physical functions and mood regulation.
Our bodies are complex yet vulnerable systems. Stress, unhealthy habits, and random eating add up each and every day, affecting our well-being on all levels. While shifts in your lifestyle are obvious, additional holistic support can also help.
There’s no harm in enjoying life as long as you preserve balance. But it’s easy to fall victim to a dopamine rush.
In those moments, remind yourself that your health is above immediate rewards.
But, dopamine is not all bad.
When dopamine rises, so does your motivation to act!
Take advantage of it in your best interest.
