Practice Gassho To Calm Your Mind And Receive Spiritual Wisdom

You don’t need complicated techniques to achieve spiritual alignment.

But every time you sit down to meditate, your mind races over all the “right” techniques to do it.

You play music…

Light candles…

Burn incense…

And, seek the perfect position…

Just to feel that something is missing.

You keep pondering over the ideal scenario.

Unfortunately, the more you try…

The more distracted you become.

It goes without saying that this anxious behavior only adds up over time, leading to frustration and poor results. However, spirituality doesn’t have to be complicate. In fact, the simple you make it, the easier it is to progress.

Gassho hand position is my go-to method for spiritual alignment.

I’ve attended many courses and seminars throughout the years.

I had many teachers and experienced a variety of Reiki methods and approaches. While each session was unique in its own way, the Gassho hand position was consistent across the board. Before any type of Reiki treatment, we would place our hands in Gassho and emerge into a short but powerful breathing exercise.

This simple routine helped us seamlessly find focus and peace.

What Is The Gassho Hand Position

Gassho roughly translates as “prayer hands”, in the Japanese culture.

The gesture is widely recognized across many cultures as a way to initiate the spiritual practice. By bringing your hands together in a praying position, you create a symbolic connection between yourself and divine consciousness. Together with a set of breathing exercises and visualization techniques, Gassho can offer multiple benefits.

However, its most essential role, is to align your inner self and vital energy with the universal life force energy.

Let’s see how the Gassho meditation looks like in practice!

  1. Bring your palms together in the prayer position. Your middle fingers will touch your chin, while your thumbs your chest, connecting the divine wisdom with your heart chakra.
  2. Rest your tongue on the roof of your mouth, with the tip slightly touching the back of your upper incisors.
  3. Start a deep and steady breathing exercise. Relax and let go of any worries, thoughts, or goals you might want to achieve. Rest your mind and go beyond your conscious self. Think of nothing.
  4. With each inhale, visualize the universal life force energy entering through your crown chakra and flowing through your fingertips, traveling deep into your body and reaching your hips and root chakra.
  5. As you exhale, imagine residual and negative energy leaving your body and being released through your energy fields.
  6. Repeat this process 8–10 times in one stand.

Practice daily for about a month.

With each passing day, Gassho will become an integral part of who you are. Gradually, you won’t “need” this meditation but use it as a natural extension of your being.

I use Gassho as a standalone meditation when I wake up and before going to bed. I practice it before self-treatment or treatment on others, to enter a meditative state and connect with higher wisdom.

I find Gassho to be a simple yet effective method for aligning with your spiritual self.

The Benefits Of Practicing The Gassho Meditation

Gassho brings benefits on multiple levels.

  • It symbolizes the balance between the brain’s hemispheres.
  • Helps you relax your mind and body through deep breathing.
  • It also represents humility and surrender in front of Divinity.
  • Through Gassho, you open up to higher forces that live beyond our physical potential.

Gassho also touches on the energetic layer.

It helps balance the masculine and feminine energies, harmonizing your Yin and Yang. The intentional breathing cleanses your main energy channel Sushumna and, by placing the tongue on the roof of your mouth, you facilitate the energy flow through your primary meridians: Ren Mai and Du Mai. These meridians are essential in properly distributing the universal energy throughout your body.

Probably the most important of all is Gassho’s role in aligning you with the universal life force energy. It serves as the ultimate symbol for compassion, forgiveness, and love, creating the ideal state for inviting the divine light into your life.

Use Gassho every day as a reminder that you’re more than a physical presence.
