New Year’s resolutions fail for the same reason most goals do.
It’s not a lack of willpower or motivation.
It’s a lack of clarity.
- You say you want to “get in shape” without defining what it looks like.
- You commit to “financial stability” without knowing what stable means for you.
- You decide to “practice Reiki more often” without setting a clear schedule you can follow.
Then life happens.
Responsibilities pile up.
Chores demand your attention.
And, before you know it, that strong emotion that led you to set ambitious targets is long gone. It quietly slips into the background of your life because you never really knew what you were chasing in the first place.
Poor Understanding Leads To Inaction
I learned this the hard way with Reiki.
More than 21 years ago, I received the Usui Reiki levels 1 and 2 in a single weekend. But, when I came home my palms were burning with heat and the energy was flooding my body. I was confused, even frightened at some point.
This happened because everything was rushed and I didn’t get a chance to internalize the information and find clarity around what I had received.
Fortunately, things changed when I met my next teacher.
He attuned me to levels 3a and 3b (master practitioner and master teacher). He ran me through a thorough explanation of what I’d received and what I could actually do with these levels. He took the time to answer my questions and guided me toward the “a-ha moments” I needed to clear the clouds above my head.
I finally understood what I was working toward.
That’s when I realized:
You can’t achieve what you can’t see clearly.
And now it’s my responsibility to pass on my knowledge with the same patience my teacher has.
I Am Ready To Become A Reiki Master
Let me be honest from the start!
Becoming a Reiki Master is not about adding more attunements to your collection. It’s a step toward spiritual growth and heightened self-awareness. Any Reiki Enthusiast can have this desire, whether they want to teach others or not.
What matters is understanding what a Reiki Master truly is.
5 Truths You Should Know Before Becoming a Reiki Master
1. You Don’t Have to Teach
You’re not forced to teach, as a Reiki Master.
You can step into this higher vibrational level purely for your own healing and evolution. Maybe you’re passionate about deepening your practice or you may want to experience a higher vibration and focus more on spiritual growth.
This is a completely valid reason for becoming a Reiki Master.
NOTE: If fear is the reason you’re not teaching, that’s worth examining. This is a normal part of the evolutionary process. Each time we move beyond our comfort zones, our innate defence mechanism gets triggered. But, this too shall pass. Just make sure to choose for the right reasons, not because you’re running from something.
2. Fear Will Show Up
So, you want to teach but you’re scared of messing up.
All sorts of questions run through your mind:
“Am I worthy of this?”
“Do I know enough?”
“What if I teach something wrong?”
These questions surface for everyone.
The difference between those who move forward and those who don’t is starting small. They don’t launch in massive cohorts from day one. They might practice the attunement on a friend or family member where they can feel comfortable and focus on learning rather than providing the “perfect” experience.
You cannot improve what doesn’t exist. Therefore, learn by doing and grow your confidence with each iteration.
The fear will slowly become background noise instead of a barrier.
3. If You Do Teach, Hold Space
“Holding space” sounds simple until you actually do it.
It means offering authentic, heartfelt support to your students.
It means helping them feel safe to explore and grow.
But, just like fear, this too has a learning curve.
Eventually, holding space must happen harmoniously.
You must serve those who chose you as their guide from a state of well-being. This means respecting yourself and your boundaries. Maintain a healthy body and a balanced energy system.
Holding space should benefit both of you.
4. Reiki Masters Also Heal
Attunements benefit both the student and their teacher:
- The universal energy flows abundantly, clearing any blockages and stimulating the chakras.
- Your vibration rises, strengthening your protection layer.
- This will echo into the physical and emotional layers.
This is why teaching and attuning others is not a one-way street. The more you give, the more you receive. It’s a mutual elevation that heals both individuals beyond what one can do on their own.
5. You’re Not The One Doing The Attunement
This is the big one!
Reiki Enthusiasts believe they directly attune others due to the complexity of the ritual.
But this can’t be further from the truth. And it’s why fear encapsulates even the most confident practitioner.
Reiki Spirit Guides perform the attunement!
We are just vessels through which the universal life force energy flows. We represent the link between the person in front of us and divine guides. We’re there to open the door and stimulate their energy healing abilities.
You don’t have to be perfect. And you don’t have to know everything there is to know because your Spirit Guides will support you at the right time.
But…
Attunements come with responsibility:
- Don’t impose your beliefs.
- Teach from your own experience.
- Stay humble and recognize your limitations.
- Create space for questions, doubts, and exploration.
- Make yourself available to guide the person when needed.
As a Reiki Master, you don’t have to be perfect. In fact, the more honest you are, the better. Just like in life, you’ll improve with practice. This will bring more confidence and awareness to each attunement.
Allow the Spirit Guides to show you the way and accept your role as a facilitator while offering your support to the person in front.
This is what it means to be a Reiki Master.
Clarity Turns Goals Into Reality
When you know what a goal looks like, you’re far more determined to take the steps to accomplish it. Reiki requires engagement. But to evolve, you need clarity to overcome the moments of struggle. That’s when you have to know why you went down this road and find the resources to keep going.
Your fears. Your doubts. All become part of the process once you have a map and sound expectations.
That’s why I wrote this!
Not to convince you to become a Reiki Master, but to help you choose the optimal path.
The worst we can do is commit to something we don’t understand because we’re more likely to give up when the journey doesn’t align with our expectations.
Better than jumping head-first, driven by early enthusiasm…
Set a goal you can actually see!
